Pink Saturday - A Fall Walk in the Neighborhood : Part 2

Here are a few "pinks" from my walk around the neighborhood. I have just been in awe of the beauty of the fall this year and it was hard to find pink out there, but I did find a few. Even a hot pink skeleton to say hello!

Friday Fill In #147

Outdoor Wednesday - Around the Neighborhood

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful fall day, so I took a walk around the neighborhood with my camera. The sun was shining and there was just a slight breeze. What a calming time it was for my spirit. I enjoyed it so much. Here are a few shots from around the neighborhood. And here is one of the last roses from our garden.

My Purses

Here are photos of my first two fabric purses. Jess saw a picture online of a purse from back in 2007 and wanted one like it.  So I searched for a pattern and couldn't come up with one. However, while I was shopping in a new fabric store in Cheboygan, of all places, I found this beautiful trio of green fabrics and a purse pattern that was close enough to modify. So that was the start of my "proto-type".

The pattern had to be modified significantly - shape, dimensions, length of handles, etc., but the important parts, like what order to do things in and how big to make the pleats, was all in there.  So I made the green bag first. The pattern instructions weren't the greatest, so I ended up doing a couple of things wrong and had to take some parts out and re-do. That was frustrating, but I think the final product was pretty good.  I felt it needed an embellishment of some sort, so I made a flower from some of my left-over felted wool and a pearl.

Then I made the flower for the owl bag using some of the left-over handle fabric. Boy, thank goodness for the web. Don't think I would've been able to do this without online instructions. You-tube helps too. : )

Pink Saturday - My First

These are some of the beautiful pink roses from our June walk at Dow Gardens. Soon we will be seeing only red, yellow, orange and green, so this is a last hurrah of summer. I am so happy to have found the website about pink saturday. If you haven't visited it, here is the link.

Friday Fill-in #145

4. Trick or Treat will be a lot of fun at our house this Halloween. We traditionally have a party and the kids all dress up and go out through our neighborhood.

6. A Mocha, extra hot with light whipped cream is what I want right now!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to homemade soup & an evening at home with my family, tomorrow my plans include taking my dd on a photo shoot at a local apple orchard and pumpkin patch and Sunday, I want to see some sunshine!

Outdoor Wednesday - Dahlia Hill

The day I took these photos, it was super windy,had just rained and a big storm was brewing, so I didn't get very many taken. But I like the way they turned out. If you look closely, you can see the raindrops on each of the flowers. The temperature will soon be dropping below freezing, so this is likely the last of the summer dahlias.

One of the nice things about having children is they stretch you to become interested in their interests. All three of my children are interested in photography, hence I have started learning more about it myself.

In Other Words

Just because you might be able to say something outloud doesn't necessarily give you the "right" to be heard. The idea of "rights" is interesting. We don't have a lot of "rights" except those guaranteed by our constitution - and even then those are at risk of being taken away.

But I think the point of this quote is the idea that just because you speak doesn't mean others must take you seriously. We do have an innate desire to be heard and valued. But we need to give up this idea of "rights". And the how of what we say can be just as imnportant as the what we say, for that will often dictate whether people listen to us or not. Communication at its best is difficult and at its worst can be a disaster.

Thrift Store Thursday

These are a few selections from my recent thrift store shopping. I have started a new tea cup collection since our recent tea party. I don't know if I will keep them or give them for gifts, but I am collecting them as I find them. Also there is the pastry stand that I made out of glass plates and glasses. I glued them together to make a display for our baked goodies at our recent tea party. Most were found at Good Will and Salvation Army. Altogether, there is less than $10 in all of the items on the table. The tea cups would make wonderful teacher gifts filled with chocolate truffles from Heather and Holly!

There is also a little mini-soup tureen out of red transfer ware that I have actually had for a long time, but I thought it would add some nice color. I got it originally at a garage sale.

This is my first time putting something out there from my thrift store shopping, but that is one of my favorite pastimes. I love to go treasure hunting - especially when I have one hour to kill while waiting for one of my kids to have a music lesson or something similar. I will look forward to posting more "finds" on here.

Two Teacups for Pink Saturday

I happened upon a church rummage sale while my dd was at her piano lesson. I was so excited to find these two teacups and saucers there, along with some other goodies. I am happy to share them with you for Pink Saturday.

It is hard to decide which is my favorite but the finish on the one below is absolutely sublime.
